Month 6 in Poland - January 2026
Hi, it’s Adam. It’s my turn to do the monthly update.
January was cold and pretty miserable. We were sick for about half of the month, and during the other half Tyler was in the U.S. for work - but even while he was away, we still did some cool things.
One big event, and a huge achievement for Alex, was passing his BELT test at Taekwon-do. It was a very special moment because we traveled to a different school in Krakow, and the whole group had to perform in front of a new teacher. We are very proud of Alex for passing his Taekwon-do exam, and he now has a white belt!
Another important event to mention is the annual Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP), which takes place all over Poland. This charity has been collecting money for 34 years to purchase medical equipment for Polish hospitals. The funds mostly support newborns and older children, and many generations of Poles have already benefited from the life-saving equipment provided by this foundation. Every year, on the third Sunday of January, there are concerts, festivals, and special events to encourage donations. We’ve even participated in these events back when we lived in California.
While Tyler was in California, we tried to spend our time creatively and visited some fun places together. One experience worth mentioning was an interactive play space and museum in Katowice, a city about an hour from Krakow. It has three floors of activities based on the popular children’s book Academy of Mr. Inkblot. Coincidentally, Adam had just finished reading this book with his class. The kids had a wonderful time, and we had a blast finishing the month of January there.
This winter in Poland has been the biggest winter in 13 year, meaning it’s been the coldest and snowiest in over a decade. We got lucky! Ha ha ha!
Other than that, we’ve had some sniffles and coughs, which is pretty normal in Poland this time of year. We take lots of supplements like vitamin D3 and vitamin C, and we try to eat healthy every day. We’re hoping February will be bette and we already know it will be, because it starts with two weeks of winter break.
All right, everybody, thanks for reading! Cheers!
