Month 7 in Poland - February 2026

 Hello everyone!


Hi, Alex Evje is writing this month (except for parentheses, which is Tyler). In February we did lots of fun things. We went to this fun place called Energylandia. It's like a Polish version of Disneyland. It was really cold there but everything was Christmas themed. It has lots of fun rides. I made a Christmas ornament there. I went down a really fun big slide. My mom went down the biggest roller coaster they had there. It was called Hyperion.

We also went skiing two times in the Polish mountains. The first time was in Zakopane and the second time was to a place called Male Ciche (Tyler: which literally translates to "small quiet"). We stayed in a little mountain cabin in the forest. In the evening we made a campfire on a mountaintop with a view and made kielbasas and smores! My dad brought the parts for the smores from America. There were lots of other kids there and we all did night-time sledding. When we were in Zakopane we went through an ice labyrinth and ate BBQed mountain sheep cheese with cranberry sauce (Tyler: it's called "oscypki grillowane z zurawina" and it's legit one of the most delicious things in Poland).

We also did a short weekend trip to Warsaw. We went to see the President's house. It was really big and fun (Tyler: I'm not sure what he's talking about as we did not actually do this). We also went to a really fun science museum. There was a robot there that you could ask questions to. I asked what 2+2 was. The answer was 4. (Tyler: the museum was called the Copernicus Science Museum and it was excellent).

On the first of February my dad come back from a trip. He went to America.

The weather is getting warmer now and Spring is coming!

Month 2 in Poland - September 2025

Hi, this is Adam. It's my turn this month to write a summary for our friends and family. Big milestones this month.  I want to tell you a bit more about my school and my class. I started 4th grade because kids in Poland start their education one year later, comparing to the US. All the kids in my class were born in 2015. We all have lockers and we need to change shoes at school (so no muddy or dirty shoes). The school is enclosed, that means we have hallways and corridors, instead of blacktop and open air space. This is mostly due to the weather. Here in Poland we have 4 distinct seasons, winter is cold and it snows occasionally. Also, it can rain in any season, unlike in California.  Each day we have different subjects and we walk from classroom to classroom to attend each class. We have Polish and Math daily, English (4 times a week), PE (4 times a week), Life Sciences, Art, Technical class, IT, History, Music, and Health Education. Month 1 in Poland - August 2025

Welcome to our first update chronicling our year away in Poland. We recently completed our first full calendar month in-country so we felt it would be a good time to share how we're getting on. Our goal is to send one of these once a month, ideally with a different author each time rotating through the family (including the kids!). We'll see if it works out that way. Our first several weeks were focused on what you would expect: getting over jetlag (especially me), getting keys to our place, trips to IKEA and building furniture, getting settled and up to speed, etc. In Krakow, our place is across the way from Monika's parents and a 15 minute walk to her brother's. It's also a 2 minute walk to Alex's school and a 15 minute walk to Adam's school. Very convenient.
