Homemade granola

I love eating healthy in the morning. The kind of energy provided by oats, fruit, nuts and yogurt can't really be provided by any other breakfast food. You get a decent amount of carbs that keep your body going until lunchtime. However, it's really easy to get bored with your every-day-granola. You can try changing the brand or buying a different type of your favorite muesli. Last night I came up with the idea of making my own granola mix. I combined rolled oats, walnuts (which have the perfect combnation of omega 3 and omega 6), cranberry, coconut, raisins, and flax seed. Then I mixed them with maple syrup, melted butter, a little bit of cinnamon, ground ginger and a pinch of salt. I baked it the oven to 325F (160C) for about 20-25 minutes until they turned golden-brown.
Sunday morning I served it with strawberries from the farmer's market right around the corner and of course my favorite plain, low fat yogurt or kefir (which surprisingly is available in our supermarket).

Stuff found around the city

Sometimes I wander through the streets of San Francisco without any aim. You know, these days when you don't really know what to do with yourself. When you promise yourself you will rest and have a stress less day, but the idea of not doing much stresses you even more. I had a day like this last Saturday. So I took the camera and set off for a small walk in the middle of the city. Lucky enough, I found two places worth talking about.

The first one is called Cookin' and sells everything that comes in handy while making any type of food. All sorts of kitchen appliances: pots, pans, spatulas, baking forms, pottery, glasses, copper pots, etc. Anything you can think of. It was really a lot of fun to browse around, but one have to be really careful because the aisles are narrow and things might fall down and break. The owner, elderly woman, sits behind the counter and can direct you precisely to what you need without standing up. For example, if you need cake stand, she will tell you to go straight, turn right behind the blue pot and look down. And you will find it there. It's like she memorized every single corner of the store. It's good to know that a place like this exists, if I need to cook a fancy dinner.

The other place I came across has very generic name: Other shop. It's basically a thrift store but comprises much more then used clothing. It sells vintage furniture, home gadgets, vinyl albums, retro jewelery and the craziest outfits I've ever seen. I really liked it's design. It felt like walking through someones apartment. Unfortunately, I didn't feel tempted enough to bring anything back. Okay, maybe except one t-shirt.

Some spring photographs

A few photos for the beginning of the week. Spring is all around us now and for the past few days I felt like going for a walk after work. So today I grabbed my canon and we strolled through my neighborhood. I'm hoping to explore different areas of the city as the good weather continues. I'll be posting random photographs from this strolls throughout the whole blog. If you have any suggestions or comets, don't hesitate to shoot me a message.

Ocean Beach Sunset

Last day of March welcomed us with a huge wave of heat. After work we decided to catch the sunset at the beach not surprisingly full of people. It was nice to feel a little breeze after the hot day. Sunsets there ale always stunning.
