Month 8 in Poland - March 2026

Well well if it isn't the middle of April. How the time does pass. This month it is my turn to write the update (Alex).

March was another fun month here. Some highlights:
  • We took a train from Karkow to Prague for a long weekend to see old friends of ours Jack and Agata (another Polish-American couple). The train was a fun experience for the boys, even if it was a little long for mom and dad (6 hours basically). The boys got to go in the front of the train with the driver. Monika and I have known Agata since the summer we met in 2008! (My god we are getting old). Prague continues to be a gorgeous city with excellent Czech beer; but it is no longer the cheap diamond in the rough it once was. It is very much on the tourist circuit now. We spent lots of time with our friends, including touring Jack's workshop where he makes prosthetics and puppets for the booming Prague film industry. So cool! We also did lots of walking around the Old Town and massive hilltop castle complex. Adam shot a real crossbow and Alex actually expressed some admiration for the giant beautiful cathedral they have there. We ate very well and saw lots of cool sculptural art all over the City.
  • We celebrated Adam's birthday in Krakow. While technically falling in April, we knew we were going to be out of town for the actual day and thus decided to have a little gathering of his friends in Krakow in late March. He and half a dozen friends from school had a pizza party at an arcade museum here in Krakow. I was very overstimulated at the end of our two hours there.
  • We also received some visitors from Dublin, another Polish-American couple (Scott and Aga) with their two girls and Scott's parents from Oakland, Emery and Louise.
Lastly, at the end of April we departed for a two-week vacation to southern Spain (more on that next month!). We're back in Krakow now and in the swing of our routine of school, work, after school activities, etc.

I'll end by saying that we have set a date to return to Davis/the US. We'll be coming back the first week of August so that we can settle back in to our house before school starting at DJUSD on Aug 22nd. We're shocked by how quickly the year has gone by here. We have enjoyed and continue to enjoy ourselves and make the most of the opportunity, but we are excited to return and see many of you!
