Month 9 in Poland - April 2026

 Hello everyone, 

This month it is my (Adam's) turn to write the monthly update. In April, we did many things. Let's start with our trip to Spain. It was lots of fun. We went to Málaga, Ronda, Cala de Mijas, Mijas Pueblo, Parauta, Fuengirola, and Marbella. We saw a holy week procession in Ronda. We also saw their beautiful medieval bridge. We had several beach days and ate LOTS of ice cream, paella, and tapas. We also went on a hike and I found a waterfall. One day we went to an olive oil processing facility and had a tour with an olive oil tasting. I liked some of the olive oil but not all of it. Our friend from Denmark, Karolina, came to spend the last three days with us and it was fun. On our last day in Spain we went go karting and it was awesome. 


Every year in Polish school, each class goes on a sleepaway camp for a week in the country or mountains where you learn about the place’s history, people, and nature. It's called Green School (Zielona Szkoła) and I went on it in April with my class and it was super fun. We stay in a dorm-like cabin for kids. The mountain village we stayed in was called Rytro. I bunked with my two friends Kacper and Oliwier. On the first day we went on a hike up on a mountain and saw a windmill and old abandoned bunker. On later days we went to a museum that was about the local life and history. After that we went to a town called Stary Sącz and it had a good view. 


In April life at school was generally good. I had to take several tests in different subjects. We also met with another Polish-American family that has two girls Maja and Roza. Maja had a birthday party at a big indoor trampoline park. It was lots of fun.


Other than that my mom went away a couple of times to work as a tour guide in different parts of Poland.


On the last day of April we flew to Brussels, Belgium to see our friends who live there and the many attractions in that City, but more on that in the next monthly update!

Month 2 in Poland - September 2025

Hi, this is Adam. It's my turn this month to write a summary for our friends and family. Big milestones this month.  I want to tell you a bit more about my school and my class. I started 4th grade because kids in Poland start their education one year later, comparing to the US. All the kids in my class were born in 2015. We all have lockers and we need to change shoes at school (so no muddy or dirty shoes). The school is enclosed, that means we have hallways and corridors, instead of blacktop and open air space. This is mostly due to the weather. Here in Poland we have 4 distinct seasons, winter is cold and it snows occasionally. Also, it can rain in any season, unlike in California.  Each day we have different subjects and we walk from classroom to classroom to attend each class. We have Polish and Math daily, English (4 times a week), PE (4 times a week), Life Sciences, Art, Technical class, IT, History, Music, and Health Education. Month 1 in Poland - August 2025

Welcome to our first update chronicling our year away in Poland. We recently completed our first full calendar month in-country so we felt it would be a good time to share how we're getting on. Our goal is to send one of these once a month, ideally with a different author each time rotating through the family (including the kids!). We'll see if it works out that way. Our first several weeks were focused on what you would expect: getting over jetlag (especially me), getting keys to our place, trips to IKEA and building furniture, getting settled and up to speed, etc. In Krakow, our place is across the way from Monika's parents and a 15 minute walk to her brother's. It's also a 2 minute walk to Alex's school and a 15 minute walk to Adam's school. Very convenient.
